Using the Makita XCU08Z chain saw is quite straightforward. First, make sure you have two 18V LXT® Lithium - Ion batteries (sold separately). Load the batteries into the saw and turn it on. When you're ready to cut, hold the rubberized soft grip top handle firmly. Use the variable speed trigger to control the cutting speed according to the material you're working on. If you're dealing with thick or hard branches, switch to the torque boost mode. Keep an eye on the bar oil level through the view window of the large oil filling port. Make sure the chain lubrication is adjusted properly for smooth operation. After you finish using the saw, if you don't use it for 60 seconds, the built - in L.E.D. on/off switch will automatically turn it off to save battery life. As for safety, always use the built - in lock - off lever to prevent the chain from accidentally starting. When it comes to maintenance, there's not much to worry about compared to gas - powered saws. You don't need to change engine oil, replace spark plugs, clean air filters or mufflers, or drain fuel. But do check the chain tension regularly using the lateral chain tensioning feature and make sure the captured bar nut is secure. Also, since the saw has Extreme Protection Technology (XPT™), it can handle some dust and water, but try to avoid using it in extremely wet or dusty conditions for long periods. Remember, the saw comes with a 3 - year limited warranty, so if you have any issues, you can refer to the warranty terms.
